This is a great site that teachers can use when teaching content related to voting. This site gives plentiful information on elections and candidates, government and officials, and different issues. This site would be helpful to use during a presidential year to show students the different candidates and how they stand on different issues. Political Cartoons This site is full of creative cartoons that cover the world news. You must be careful with the selection of cartoons that you use depending on if it is relevant to what is being taught and age appropriate. Presenting students with a political cartoon is a good way to engage them when beginning new content by seeing how and why they interpret it, etc. This site has many to choose from which is useful for teachers would like to integrate them into their lessons. Congress for Kids This site provides a fun and exciting way for children to learn about the federal government. There are engaging activities, illustrations, information, quizzes, etc. that will extend students learning on the American federal government and how its actions will effect them. This site would be helpful for teachers to explore with children or have children explore on their own when teaching a lesson about the American government. Teen Government This is a great site to educate teens about the political process and help them recognize their voice as American citizens. This site not only teaches about the different branches of government but gives different ways that teens can get involved with the political process. This would be a great site for teachers to use when teaching the importance of political issues and involvement of American citizens; teachers can use this site to encourage students to get involved by using the different examples from this site of what they can do. Government for Kids This is a good site for students to learn, explore, and have fun while trying to comprehend different concepts related to government. Within this site, there are many other links to sites of more specific concepts related to the government. There are links to activities, video and audio resources, documents, interesting facts, etc. that would all be beneficial for teachers to integrate into their lessons on government. |

This site has many different resources that teachers can use when teaching concepts related to economics. This site includes links to many different lesson plans, data sets, blogs, games, and videos. This site would be useful for teachers to get ideas for lessons plans and ways to engage students through games and videos. Lesson Plans This site has a plentiful amount of lesson plans that are all relevant to many different economics concepts that would be valuable for teachers to get ideas from when creating their own lessons. There are also other links to resources that would be useful for teachers such as the current events. The current events would be a good way for teachers to see the latest news and information and to learn more about what's happening in the world of economics. There are also different resources for children to use such as videos and game-like activities that would help them learn economics in a fun way. Money This site provides lesson plans as ideas for teachers on how to teach children to manage money. It also gives examples and interactive experiences which would be beneficial for teachers to illustrate money management principles to their students. Money for Kids This is a great interactive site where children can go to learn about money. There are many different activities and games that teachers could implement into their lessons when teaching about economy and money. All about Economics This website is good for introducing the basic concepts on economics. It contains a lot of information, quizzes, activities, and provides many links to learn more about our global economy. This is a good site for children to compare many different types of maps around the world. You can choose from many different sets of data that would be beneficial to compare around the world. This would be a great site for teachers to use when teaching a lesson that involves comparing total population, land area, etc. in more than one place around the world. Peace Corps Kids This is a great site for students to explore when learning about world geography and the cultures of other countries. This site allows children to play games that involve them solving critical challenges that villages have to face. This is a good way for students to learn about other peoples ways of life, and how there are many cultures around the world different from their own. Educational Software and Maps Teachers can use this site to help students learn about different concepts of geography in a fun and engaging way through games, software, and activities. There are many interactive maps that will help children explore different concepts of geography (continents, countries, states, capitals, etc.) There are also many different maps that teachers can print out to implement into their lessons on geography. Maps This site has a variety of world maps, country maps, state maps, city maps, street maps, road maps, etc. There are also resources and information on how to use each map. This is a great site for teachers to use when teaching a lesson involving maps. There are also blank and outline maps that teachers could print off for each student to fill out for an assessment. World Fact Book This site has a ton of facts and information pertaining to the world, as well as different regional maps. This would be good for teachers and students to explore when learning about the world or certain countries. You can select a specific country or location or the world and it will bring up maps, pictures, facts, and information on whatever you would like to know about that particular place. Geography Games This is a great site for students to learn about geography through a fun and engaging way; through games. There are eight main categories (the seven different continents and a random category which has games on flags, world maps, country capitals, etc.) that provide many games that are a fun way for children to learn about geography. |
History Web ResourcesNational Archives
The National Archives is a good site for teachers to use when teaching about our nation's history. There are documents, photos, records, lesson plans, locations to visit, and online shopping. Teachers could use this site to get ideas from very engaging lessons and resources, plan a field trip (if nearby) to visit Nation Archives, and shop online for books and other teaching resources. Michigan in the Civil War This is a great site for teachers to use to engage students when learning about the civil war time period. There are many different video clips about the civil war and stories of many people that were there during that time. Ancient History This site allows for students to explore and learn about the ancient history of the Near East, Egypt, Greece, Rome, Africa, and Ancient Americas. Students can learn about the people, mythology, daily life, death and burial, writing, and archaeology of all of these places. There are examples, images, etc. which would make this site very interesting for students learning about ancient history. Authentic History Center This site includes many different images, artifacts, songs, sounds, interviews, timelines, etc. to tell tell the story of different time periods and main events in the United States history. This would be a good site for teachers to use when teaching about the history of the United States and to implement many of these great resources into their lesson plans to provide students with different visuals to learn about the past. Colonial Kids This is a great site for students to learn about how different life was for children like them back in the colonial times. It talks about differences in their homes, clothing, daily life, school life, transportation, important jobs when they grow up, and their Native American friends. There are also many activities such as games, crafts, recipes, etc. that would be very engaging for students. The First Thanksgiving This is a wonderful site for teachers to use as a holiday theme for Thanksgiving to teach about the very first Thanksgiving through the voyage on the Mayflower, daily life, and the Thanksgiving feast. It provides many books, lessons, and resources that teachers could use in their classrooms. Lewis and Clark This site allows children to go West across America on the journey with Lewis and Clark. This would be a very engaging and fun way for students to learn about discovering the Americas and the struggles that were faced to get their. |

This site would be very useful for teachers to use as a reference when creating their own lesson plans. Time-Savers This site has 729 printable sheets that are teacher time-savers. Some of the different time-savers include lesson plan forms, daily teacher forms, student rewards, student achievements, peer review forms, student motivators, student passes, student helpers, field-trip forms, and many more interesting templates that you can print out and use to save time. GLCEs These are all of the Michigan grade level content expectations for social studies, grades K-8. This would be helpful for teachers to know what content to base their unit and lesson plans off of. Clip Art This is a great site to obtain free clip art. There are many different categories containing a variety of clip art images that can be used in your classroom. This would be useful for teachers to incorporate relevant clip art images into worksheets, activities, games, etc. to compliment and extend learning for all students. Videos for Students Videos can usually be a very engaging component for students while learning. This is a great site where you can find videos for students to watch in order to learn a concept or skill. This would be helpful for teachers when they are wanting to incorporate an educational video into their lesson. |
