Classroom Considerations
Students desks will be arranged in groups of four so that they will be able to talk within their groups and already be in the correct spot for group assignments. I will have the cart with computers and internet access already in the classroom for students to use during this lesson. I realize that students may not have internet access at home so we will do the work for this lesson on the computers at school. There will be sites on the related content available for students to go to outside of school if they choose to.
Before the students arrive to class, the room will be set up in a wetlands theme. There will be a couple different tubs with dirt, water, plants, and critters obtained from a wetland for students to explore. There will be wetland detective supplies/tools available: hats, magnifying glasses, microscopes, etc. that will help students feel like actual detectives when they are exploring the tubs and actual wetlands we visit. There will also be poster- size pictures of different wetlands hung around the room as well as stuffed animals of frogs, snakes, etc. This will hook the students and get them excited for a unit on wetlands!
