General Characteristics
My classroom consists of a very unique and diverse bunch of third grade students. There are ten girls and thirteen boys ranging from the age of 8 to 9 years old. The majority of this group, about 75 percent, is Caucasian, with the remaining about 25 percent being either African American or Hispanic. Some of the students come from middle to high-income families while other students come from low-income families. Because of the great classroom management plan created on the first day of class, the majority of these students have a strong desire to perform well for their teacher and follow the classroom contract (list of rules). They are good listeners, thinkers, and are talkative at times (especially during group work, when they need to be). The exception to this are the few students who do not want to do some or most of the things being asked of them or simply do not want to be at school. Every student is unique and interested in things different from their peers. Some are interested in science because they love animals or in writing because they like to get their stories down on paper. Some like doing math problems, while others enjoy reading a good book. A lot of the students are involved in some type of activity outside of school including: soccer, dancing, jump roping, drawing, singing, fishing, and/or playing video games.
